Statement of Faith
The Statement of Faith of The Berean Library:
Affirms the Holy Scriptures are the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments which are “God-breathed.” Therefore, completely without error, inerrant and infallible, in the original autographs. God’s Word is truth. It is His supreme, sufficient, divine, complete, final authority and revelation for every matter of life and faith.
Affirms One God who is three distinct persons as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, who have always existed, are equal and eternal.
Affirms the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is Creator and Sustainer of His creation. He has always existed as God. He is the Word made flesh; conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, Mary; therefore, became incarnate as fully human, having always been fully God. He lived a perfectly sinless life, being tempted in every way. He performed numerous miracles during His three year ministry of the New Covenant in His power and authority. Christ willingly suffered and died a death on the cross that He did not deserve for the forgiveness of sins as the complete and acceptable propitiation to the Father. After laying His life down for His sheep, Jesus was raised bodily from the dead three days later. He appeared to the disciples and a multitude of over 500 witnesses before being exalted at the right hand of the Father where He is Head of His church and interceding for His own. We await the imminent, glorious, personal, visible and bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Affirms Adam and Eve were created by God in His perfect and holy image, but fell into sin, from their original state of spiritual life to spiritual death due to their rebellion and disobedience to God, after being tempted by Satan. This sin nature and spiritually dead condition from fallen Adam is legally transferred , or inherited, to all humans. It is the original sin that became introduced to mankind in the Garden of Eden, becoming a part of man’s nature that cultivates continued, unlearned, rebellious sin, in every human toward God; requiring all people, who are unable to save themselves, to be restored to The Holy and Just God and saved from the deserved, eternal wrath of God.
Affirms salvation as the free, eternal gift of God by grace alone through faith in Christ alone. It is never earned or bought by the works of fallen man. Rather, it is provided by the Father and purchased through the sinless life, death, burial and resurrection of the Lamb, the Son, Jesus Christ. God legally transfers, or imputes, this new, righteous, “made alive in Christ” justification to unworthy sinners who, by God’s grace and through faith in Christ, repent of their sin, turn to Jesus, confess Him as Lord and Savior and believe the gospel of Christ. That is, being made born again by the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit to obey God to the glory of God alone.
Affirms the new believer is permanently indwellt and sealed by the Holy Spirit from the moment their eternal salvation occurs; believing Christ’s sufficiency and promise that He will not lose nor cast one out. The Holy Spirit encourages, equips, empowers, enables and causes believers to willfully die to self, to the glory of God alone. Thus, to deny living for self and sin and to live for Christ and His True Gospel, obeying Christ’s commands, no matter the opposition faced by the flesh, the world or the devil. This is the perseverance and progressive sanctification of the saints in the outpouring of fruitful, good works from saving faith with continued repentance as granted by God’s unending and unfailing grace throughout temptations, tests and trials in this life; enduring to the end by the Spirit of God. However, complete cessation of the sin nature does not occur until each believer is brought into eternal glory. Seeing their Savior face to face, each will be “like Him,” not in deity, but in holiness, in His presence.
Affirms the command of Christ to take His Gospel into all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit while teaching them to obey all Christ has commanded.
Affirms the unity of the saints in Christ, who make up the Body of Christ, of which Christ is the Head, where ever they may be.
Affirms the bodily resurrection of the saved and unsaved; the saved raised to everlasting life with Christ and the unsaved condemned to judgment and eternal punishment.
